40,000-year-old Baby Mammoth Found In Russia

How flippin cool is this???

A Russian hunter through Russia's remote Arctic Yamalo-Nenetsk region in May noticed a carcass, that he thought was a reindeer, sticking out of the snow.

On closer inspection, the "reindeer" turned out to be a 40,000-year-old baby mammoth, perfectly encased in ice.

The six-month-old female mammoth is the most well-preserved example yet found of the beasts, which lumbered across the Earth during the last Ice Age, 1.8 million to 11,500 years ago.

"It's a lovely little baby mammoth indeed, found in perfect condition," Alexei Tikhonov, deputy director of the Russian Academy of Science's Zoological Institute, told the Reuters news agency.

At 110 pounds (50 kilograms) and 51 inches long (130 centimeters long), the baby is the size of a large dog, Reuters reported.

Scientists are banking on the female—named "Lyuba" after the Russian hunter's wife—to reveal some of the genetic secrets of the prehistoric giants.

That's because Lyuda's excellent state—intact except for her shaggy locks—makes her a veritable treasure trove for research.

Emerging DNA technologies have already allowed some scientists to consider resurrecting the mammoth.

Meanwhile, the newfound body will undergo three-dimensional computer mapping at Japan's Jikei University, followed by an autopsy at the Zoological Museum in St. Petersburg. The Ice Age toddler will end up on display in the Russian Arctic town of Salekhard.

'Condom Clothing' Unveiled At Beijing Fashion Show

If you plan to go out this weekend and you DO NOT want anyone else to be wearing the same outfit as you - you may want to take a closer look at this new collection.

From tight-fitting wedding gowns, scaly-looking evening dresses to outrageous bikinis, China's largest condom manufacturer, Guilin Latex Factory, unveiled some interest clothing to promote the use of condoms in the fight against HIV/AIDS.

It also marked World Population Day, organized annually by the U.N. Population Fund.

China, with a population now of 1.3 billion, introduced a strict one-child policy in the late 1970s under which many residents are restricted to one child.

"One (child) is not enough -- two are better," said visitor Song Weiliang.

But the main aim of the condom show was to promote AIDS awareness.

China originally stigmatized AIDS as a disease of the decadent, capitalist West -- a problem of gays, sex workers and drug users. Traditionally, none of these officially existed in communist China.

It has belatedly woken up to the problem, and health experts have warned the virus is now moving into the general population. But a lack of sex education and unwillingness to talk about sex still hampers the fight, health experts say.

I don't know if being shown clothing made out of condoms would change my perception of safe sex? Either you know that you can get pregnant if you don't use a condom or you don't. Maybe parents should sit down and talk with their kids...

Looking For A New House??

What is believed to be the nation's most expensive residential listing is currently on the market if you are looking to change neighbourhoods.

A mansion that once belonged to publishing magnate William Randolph Hearst was put on the market Monday for $165 million.

The seller, attorney-investor Leonard M. Ross, bought the Beverly Hills property in 1976 and is seeking a "lifestyle change," said his real-estate broker, Stephen Shapiro.

The asking price surpassed the $155 million being sought by developers of a 10-bedroom estate in Montana's Big Sky country, and the $135 million price of an Aspen, Colo., compound owned by Saudi Prince Bandar bin Sultan, former ambassador to the United States.

Hearst bought the mansion in 1947 for about $120,000. The 1920s-era, pink stucco estate is shaped like the letter H and is spread across 6.5 acres north of Sunset Boulevard.

It boasts three pools, 29 bedrooms, a movie theater, a disco and separate residence for the security staff.

Hearst hosted frequent parties for the famous and powerful there. John F. Kennedy and his bride, Jacqueline, spent part of their honeymoon at the estate in 1953. The pair later returned when the mansion was used as the West Coast campaign headquarters for Kennedy's presidential campaign.

The estate was also featured in the film "The Godfather."

To date, there hasn't been a house in the U.S. that has sold for over $100 million. The record home sale remains the $94 million paid by former telecom mogul Gary Winnick for a Bel-Air estate in 2001.

Jen's Photo Meltdown Big Brother 8

This will be a piece of classic Big Brother video for years to come. 'Jenious' has a meltdown when she sees her official Big Brother for the first time.

She immediately starts to cry and mumbles on for what seems like forever about the bad light and horrible camera angle.

Is this chick for real? I can't believe that she didn't get nominated for eviction over this piece of drama...

Baby Moose Born On Front Lawn In Anchorage

I got these photos by e-mail today and had to post them because they were way too cute!

This baby Moose is 12 hours old. Apparently, he was born on someones front lawn and the pair stayed for a bit to have a post birth rest...

The mother picked a small quiet neighbor and had her baby in the front yard at 5:30 am. The couple who took the photos were out bike riding when they came upon the pair. The lady across the street from this house told them she saw it being born. They saw them at 5:30 pm. So the little one was 12 hours old.

Someone's Having A BAD Day!

A 1,500-pound wrecking ball broke loose from a crane cable and raced downhill, smashing into cars and injuring three people before coming to rest in the trunk of a car at an intersection.

The wrecking ball, about 3 feet across, was being used Monday to demolish part of a library at Allegheny College in Pennsylvania, US, when the cable snapped, police said.

The crane operator tried to stop it, but it rolled nearly three-quarters of a mile downhill, damaging more than a dozen vehicles as it bounced from curb to curb, police said.

Most of the damaged vehicles were parked, but the ball slammed into the rear of Alex Habay's car stopped at an intersection, causing a chain reaction accident with two other cars at the traffic light, police said.

"All of a sudden, the back windshield exploded and I hit the car in front of me," said Habay, 20, a junior at Allegheny College in Meadville, 90 miles north of Pittsburgh.

The ball lodged in the trunk of a car, pushing the vehicle about 20 feet.

"I got out of my car and couldn't believe it when I walked back and saw this giant wrecking ball sitting in the trunk of the last car," said Meadville police Officer Brian Joseph.

The poor guy was still in his car when the 'ball' bounced on it. He needed to be taken away by ambulance.

I wonder in anyone got footage of this whole debacle for YouTube??
